We welcome you to the Brunswick United Methodist Church as you consider your wedding plans!
If you would like to be married at our church, please call 207-725-2185 and we will put you in touch with Rev. Sharon Lovejoy, who will perform the ceremony if time and scheduling permits. Church staff will also assist you in determining whether or not the date you desire is available.
At the first meeting, the Pastor and the couple will discuss mutually agreeable times and dates for subsequent meetings for premarital counseling and wedding preparation. For couples who are not members of the Brunswick United Methodist Church, the pastor’s honorarium is $250. If couples who are members choose to give an honorarium to recognize the extra time commitment on the part of the pastor, it will be accepted but is not expected or required.
Music
The Music Director of BUMC will also be consulted on availability and will be responsible for all musical arrangements for the wedding service. If other arrangements are necessary or desired, the Music Director will approve and provide orienting information for the substitute organist and/or performers. Vocal and/or instrumental (flute, trumpet, guitar, violin, etc.) soloists often have a part in the service. The Music Director will be happy to assist you in securing a qualified soloist. A competent guest soloist is also welcome.
Use of Facilities
As you prepare for your wedding ceremony, please review this information with your wedding party, photographer, and florist. Reserving the church for a wedding entitles you the use of the sanctuary for specified periods. These are:
The rehearsal, up to one hour. NOTE: if you wish to decorate the church following the rehearsal, please speak to the pastor at least two weeks in advance. If no other activities are scheduled for the sanctuary, she will help you arrange the time you need for the decorating.
The Wedding Ceremony, up to three hours, 90 minutes before and 90 minutes following the scheduled wedding time. You will have access to bathrooms and to a waiting area for the groom and best man prior to the ceremony. Please remember that no food or beverages are permitted in the sanctuary. ABSOLUTELY NO alcohol or tobacco products are permitted in any part of the building.
Special note for photographers: please speak with the officiating pastor about the best vantage points for photos and videos to be taken during the ceremony. Ordinarily, no flash photographs, additional lighting, or movement around the sanctuary are permitted between the end of the processional and the beginning of the recessional. Exceptions to this policy may only be made with the permission of the officiating pastor who will remind guests of the same policy.
