GUIDELINES FOR LENTEN DEVOTIONALS SUBMISSIONS

GUIDELINES FOR LENTEN DEVOTIONALS 2021 COLLABORATIVE PROJECT

WRITTEN WORKS:

-You grant the Brunswick United Methodist Church and its designee publishing project committee permission to use your written devotional submission, authored by you. Any references to someone else’s works within your works is source documented in the work. The rest is of your own authorship.

-You acknowledge that your submitted works will be used in the church’s liturgical season’s Devotionals publication in both hard copy booklet as well as the online internet version UNLESS you state otherwise.

DIGITAL IMAGING: (as in artworks, images original or online, youtube clips, home recording clips)

– You grant the Brunswick United Methodist Church and its designee publishing project committee permission to use your submitted digital images. Your digital images need to be identified by the photographer and/or image source thereof at the end of your written piece or under the digital image if submitting only the digital image and no written devotional work.

– You grant the Brunswick United Methodist Church and its designee publishing project committee permission to use your other-sourced artwork that might be paired with the online version as an inspirational enhancement to the devotional work you have submitted.

-You acknowledge and grant permission that your submitted artwork and or digital images or photography might be paired with someone else’s devotional writing unless you state otherwise when submitting your work.

-Sample: Please limit my artwork submission to be shown only with my submitted devotional writing/s.

DEVOTIONAL WRITINGS GUIDELINES:

Submitted works are your own as stated above. They are for one-time use by the Brunswick United Methodist Church’s stated Devotionals unless you specify differently in writing.

All writing submissions will be reviewed by a copy editor and suggestions made as or if needed. Sometimes children’s works submitted reflecting the mind of the child needs no editing. Otherwise, what is submitted is what will appear in the church’s devotionals publications for the year so stated. Children’s works need to have the supervising parent’s name along with the child author’s name. Sample: by Peanut KW and Muriel Wazet.

SUBMISSIONS FORMAT:

Maximum 1 page, single-spaced. Longer works will be edited as needed for hard copy space. The online version has fewer space restrictions.

Keep paragraphing to 6 sentences per paragraph, max. as much as possible. This has to do with how the brain digests written works nowadays.

Line Spacing: single-spaced.

Print: 12-14 point, 9 point font for citing image sources allowed.

Margins: 1 inch on all sides.

Make sure your devotional is readable in Word or as a Word Doc, sent to the office in an email either as an attachment or as the email message. Any fancy graphics that are not reproducible will not be included in the hard copy booklet version.

Send to:  devotionals@umcbrunswick.org

QUESTIONS? Feel free to ask! devotionals@umcbrunswick.org.   Please be aware that for online space we will be using a free internet FaceBook blog, so random ads might appear on the Devotionals blog pages. When our budget gets larger financing, we can purchase space with no ads! We are greatly blessed by your writings! For a sense of how the online version might appear, go to last year’s presentations on FaceBook:

Sunday Worship Services are on Facebook Live Until Further Notice (Updated 12/22/20)

Pastor Sharon will continue to livestream our worship services on Facebook on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.   Please invite family members, neighbors, and friends to join in.  If you are not able to participate in worship through Facebook, please call the office (725-2185) so we can help you find alternate means.

We are grateful for the music our Praise Team provides each week.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.                                Romans 15: 13

Financial Donations

We would like to offer our sincere thanks to all who are supporting the ministries of BUMC, especially during the pandemic. We are ever grateful to those who support our church family with their weekly giving, and especially to those new to our on-line worship services who are offering their support as well. All donations, no matter the size, make a difference in the lives of those in need.  THANK YOU!
